In 1936 taxpayers were faced with high government debt and high interest on that debt. Sitting around the table the family waits as father dishes out dinner, very little is left to feed the children after the interest on government debt fills the biggest plate of the unwanted house guest.

Cruise Ships Coming to Nanaimo
This Saturday, Nanaimo will be welcoming the “Celebrity Millennium” cruise ship which will dock here from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors might have a chance to see artists and photographers participating in the “Paint Out – Shoot Out” being held downtown on Saturday as well.
The City of Nanaimo is planning to close Esplanade Street from Crace Street and Finlayson.
Also, the Norwegian Star will visit Nanaimo on Sunday, September 25th from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Gabriolans upset over missing lounge
BC Ferries has demolished the ferry lounge at the Nanaimo Harbour.
On Monday, April 4th, BC Ferries removed the waiting room for Gabriola bound foot passengers and replaced it with a temporary awning and nearby portable toilets. From now until July, construction will be taking place on a new building.
In the meantime, I hope you find some shelter from the rain and wind!
