Mid Island Farmers Markets look for your support

Mid Island farmers markets need your support this season more than ever now that the grocery industry is squeezing them out. In the Nanaimo region there are 14 grocery stores including: Costco, Fairways, Save-on Foods, Walmart, Super Store, Thrifty Foods, Country Grocer, Quality Foods, and Island Naturals.

I have included a new section on the blogroll called “Food” where you can find a list of local farmers markets.  Some people say that it is cheaper and more convenient to shop at the large big box grocery stores but what happens to food sustainability?

Fruit co-op packing houses and family farms are closing up in BC and it hasn’t made the headlines.  As fewer players make up the food market, your groceries will cost more.
