And the Doug Clarke Memorial Award goes to…. the Millstone River project in Nanaimo. Hats off to all the hard work from the Nanaimo and District Fish and Game Protective Association, the City of Nanaimo and the Fisheries and Oceans. The Millstone River By-Channel is an 800-metre long side-channel that provides Coho salmon and other fish the opportunity to migrate above Deadman’s waterfalls. The Millstone River project was the final of three phases that took place to provide the fish with an alternate spawning route. The completion of the channel past Deadman’s falls is part of the long term goal of providing a self-sustaining Coho run in the Millstone River.
