Congratulations to Vancouver Island’s own Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, who was voted as the new National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. Mr. Atleo is the hereditary chief of the Ahousaht First Nation as well as Chancellor of Vancouver Island University. Currently, Mr. Atleo serves as the British Columbia Regional Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, so his experience will serve him well as does his name, A-in-chut, which translates as “everyone depends on you.”
Ahousaht First Nation is located on Flores Island, north of Tofino in Clayoquot Sound.
