“Over the River and Through The Woods” is an upcoming play presented by the Nanaimo Theatre Group: 

Nick is a single Italian-American guy from New Jersey, who visits both sets of grandparents every Sunday for dinner.

When he is offered his dream job in Seattle, the grandparents plan a series of schemes to stop him from leaving them … including the lovely and single Caitlin O’Hara!

“Over the River and Through The Woods” will be showing at the Bailey Theatre March 23rd to April 9th, 2011.  Show times are 2:00pm (March 27th & April 3rd only) and 8:00pm.

Nanaimo Theatre Auditions

Are you a performing artist? The Nanaimo Theatre Group is holding auditions for Dipietro’s Over the River and Through the Woods production. The play will be performed at the Bailey from March 23rd to April 9th, 2011. Also, the play will be The Nanaimo Theatre Group’s entry into the North Island Zone Festival to be held in Port Alberni during the week of May 22nd to the 28th, 2011. 

The story line: Nick is a single Italian-American guy from New Jersey who visits both sets of grandparents every Sunday for dinner. When he is offered his dream job in Seattle, the grandparents plan a series of schemes to stop him from leaving them… including the lovely and single Caitlin O’Hare!

 The play requires:
- two 60+ women
- two 60+ men (one who plays a musical instrument)
- one 25-35 man
- one 25-35 woman
 
AUDITIONS : The auditions will be by appointment with a prepared script.  (Audition scripts will be available by email or by arrangement, after December 1st.)

Dates: Wednesday, December 8th 6-9pm & Saturday, December 11 from 2-5pm.
Location:  Bailey Studio, Rosstown Road, Nanaimo.

Auditions For Barefoot in the Park

Calling all actors! Auditions for Neil Simon’s play, Barefoot in the Park, at the Bailey Studio Theatre.  The play opens February 2 – closes February 19, 2010. 

Barefoot in the Park, is about a conservative young lawyer, Paul, who marries a vivacious young woman, Corie, and their highly passionate relationship descends into comical discord in a five-flight New York City apartment. Then add a date with Victor Velasco (wears kimonos and sleeps on rugs), Ethel Banks (wears a hair net and sleeps on a board), and the maintenance man, and you have the foundation for Neil Simon’s  Barefoot in the Park. CAST OF CHARACTERS:
Corie Bratter – mid twenties
Paul Bratter – mid to late twenties
Ethel Banks – Corie’s mother – middle aged
Victor Velasco – middle aged
Telephone Repair Man – any age
Delivery Man (no lines) – any age

The Underpants at Bailey Studio Theatre

Time to get your tickets for some live comic relief! “THE UNDERPANTS”, adapted by Steve Martin is on at the Bailey Studio, located at 2373 Rosstown Road from Sept 30th to Oct. 16th, 2010 and Matinee – Oct. 3rd, 2010.  Show Times: 8:00pm and Mat: 2:00pm.

Comic genius Steve Martin, concocted this entertaining adaptation, set in Europe in 1910, about a housewife who becomes an overnight celebrity when she accidentally loses her underpants in public. Chaos follows in this witty comedy that explores fidelity, sexuality and hidden desire. This cheeky satire exposes the bewildering misfortune of love … and other unmentionables.

Nanaimo Theatre Auditions

Are you an actor looking to perform?  The Nanaimo Theatre Group is holding auditions for David Bainbridge & Michael Lucas’, “PANTO in the JUNGLE”,  a traditional English pantomime to be directed by:  Wendy Wearne & Lisa Kerr.

Audition Dates:
Wednesday, Sept. 8th,  – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Saturday, Sept. 11th – 3 to 6pm
Wednesday, Sept. 15th  – 6:30pm to 9:30pm

Location: The Bailey Studio, 2373 Rosstown Road, Nanaimo.

Required: Cast members for various roles:
12 years and older,  who love to sing, dance and interact with audiences.

Auditions may include one (or all) of the following:  a basic-level group dance, a chorus song, individual solos (you can prepare 16 bars of a song of your choice) and some improv.
Please dress with ‘movement’ in mind.

Potential Rehearsal Dates, Tuesday &  Thursday evenings,  Sunday afternoon or evenings, Sept 19th to Dec. 16th.

Performance Dates:  Dec 18th to 20th – Dec. 26th to 31st, 2010.

Clean House at Nanaimo Theatre Group

The Clean House  is now playing at The Nanaimo Theatre Group.

The play is about Lane and Charles who have hired a housekeeper.  Matilde is an aspiring comedienne from Brazil, more interested in finding the perfect joke than cleaning.  Lane’s sister, Virginia, has a passion for cleaning and as Lane’s life unravels Virginia and Matilde help her through her failing marriage – using laughter, logic, and love.

April 21st to May 8th at  8pm
