New art show at Nanaimo Art Gallery Downtown

Are you looking for colourful inspiration? There is a new art show starting tomorrow at the downtown location of the Nanaimo Art Gallery on Commericial Street.

The exhibit features works by Rob Elphinstone who is an award winning artist whose works are very organic and Monet in style. His “actualism” oil paintings and “reverse perspective” 3D works convey an emotional state like expressionist art.  ”Actualism” art is an attempt to paint that portion of nature a photograph cannot capture. Flow and movement is essential to the realization of this idea and can be seen in his paintings of forests and seascapes.

Rob Elphinstone’s show runs from December 16th, 2010 to January 8th, 2011.

New Art Show Downtown and at VIU Gallery

Two new art shows are on at Nanaimo’s Art Gallery downtown and VIU campus locations.

At the VIU gallery, the show is called, “Mappings: Departure Points” featuring artists Bettina Matzkuhn and Robert Naish: This exhibition explores the work of these two distinguished artists who both work in visual cartography. Elements such as gridlines, land marks, are a vehicle for communication, interaction, and self reflection.

Mappings is on now until January 8, 2011 at the VIU Art Gallery .

While you are downtown take in “Turning the Tide…one Ripple at a Time” at the downtown art gallery, 150 Commercial Street.  Featuring Artists: North Island Quilters for Community Awareness and Nanaimo Go Grannies.  On until November 30, 2010.

This textile art show is about hope and commitment. The title,”Turning the Tide”, is taken from the Stephen Lewis Foundation campaign that is committed to turning the tide of the AIDS pandemic in Africa. Each piece depicts an aspect of the many projects that are being funded, hence the subtitle: “One Ripple at a Time.”
