Are you looking to enjoy live theatre season this fall? Here are some productions to get your theatrical interests started:
Western Edge Theatre has announced a Fall season mini-series of three solo shows, opening with Antony Holland in “One Man in His Time” on September 28th. “One Man in His Time” plays Sept. 28, 29 and Oct. 5, 6 at 7:30 pm at Nanaimo Centre Stage, with a single matinee on Oct. 7 at 2 pm. Holland brings to life his experiences as a British soldier in WWII. He recreates an era of fast friendships, adventures, and terrible loss.
Other shows in the Fall series include “The Agony” and the “Ecstasy of Steve Jobs.”
Schmooze Productions will present the musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It runs November 8th to December 1st. The play first appeared in the 1830s in England and was later adapted for the London stage. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler collaborated on a musical adaptation ‘Sweeney Todd’ which opened on Broadway in 1979 and became an instant hit.
Nanaimo Theatre Groupis starting the fall season with The Melville Boys whichopens Wednesday October 10th. Brothers Owen and Lee arrive at a lakeside cabin for a weekend of adventures.
The play is about the Melville brothers, Owen and Lee, who arrive at a lakeside cabin for a “guys” weekend. Lee, a quiet, responsible married man, hopes to get Owen, his irrepressible, lively brother, to face some serious facts about the future. Their plans are thrown out of whack when two sisters arrive and become catalysts for a tender, funny, and unsentimental look at four lives in transition.

Actors are wanted for “Pack of Lies” showing at Bailey Theatre in Nanaimo, next March to April 2012.
The Jacksons are a nice, middle-aged couple who live next door to their best friends, the Krogers. All is blissful until a Scotland Yard detective asks to use the Jackson house as an observation post to try and foil a Soviet spy ring.
