New wastewater plant for North Nanaimo

The City of Nanaimo purchased 5775 Vanderneuk Road for a future waste-water station. The price was $425,000, the appraised value of the property.
The need for a new waste-water storage tank to be constructed in the north end is to service the thousands of homes and complexes to be built in the Linley Valley West area.

The waste-water tank will be approximately 9230 cubic metres in volume, with the majority of the tank to be underground, and the part of the tank that is above ground will be approximately the same height as the existing homes.

Also, the City of Nanaimo has passed a pump and haul bylaw to accommodate properties where the ground will not accept the usual city sewer hook ups or septic tank fields.
